Day 35 - The Final Two Days of the First Leg

Well, we have two days left. The incredibly cute baby, Lilly Olivia Hahn, has been born a bit early, but we are heading home to meet her as soon as we can. We have two last stops to make - we're hitting the north shore of Jersey for Jay and silent Bob stuff, and then venturing a bit west to see my Aunt Eileen, and to stay with her this evening. We will be home to Maryland tomorrow night, which will be nice, and plan to stay on the street near Hannah's house, where we should be allowed to plug in to her house. We're hoping to stay through the weekend, and head out to Delaware Monday morning. I have off on Friday for Veterans day, so another short week sounds mighty nice.
We stayed in our first brewery parking lot last night (Stony Creek Brewery in Connecticut), which was quite convenient, despite the brewery closing earlier than their posted closing time at 9pm. We got there a bit before 6pm, and I finished work in their tasting room while enjoying a beer or two. They didn't serve food, but they had a food truck, so I grabbed some chicken to go with the beer. our original plan was to stay at our first rest stop that evening, or to stay with boondocker's welcome again (as we did before on the free). Unfortunately, the boondocking host didn't call me back until nearly 7, and by then, we had already asked if we could stay at the brewery, and weren't in the mood to drive an hour in the dark (since it gets dark so incredibly early now, at like 4:30pm). The overcast skies haven't helped. All of their beers were bird-oriented, as the Great Crane was their mascot at Stony Creek brewery. 'Ruffled Feathers' was pretty tasty, as well as their 'cranky' IPA. We also enjoyed a flight, and tried to get a growler fill to drink there to save money, but they didn't allow growler consumption onsite unfortunately We didn't want to press our luck since they were allowing us to stay for free in their large lot on the water. We were a bit too tired to want to do much else that evening, but we stayed up talking together until 12 or so, and then decided to watch an episode of Rick and Morty in bed, and tried to catch colbert, but I fell asleep. Wasn't the best time to sleep, since I left the antenna booster on, as well as the TV, running off of the solar battery power. I still have enough to work for today at least, but I'm hoping for sunnier skies tomorrow, or else the day may not go too well.
We just finished driving through New York City, or Sarah did rather, and I just helped to get us out alive. Aside from absolutely terrible roads (even on the interstates), we made it out okay. We had a brief scare with regards to a bridge that was a bit too low for our rig to fit under it, so we had to try to exit before hand, and had to come to a standstill on the highway in order to make the exit. We had to sit and wait for quite some time, as NY drivers suck, and go way too fast without regard for anyone but themselves. Eventually, one kind soul pulled along aside of us, and motioned for us to pass in front of him so that we could make it to the exit, and prevent damage to our roof on the bridge. It was a stressful time that gave us both a bit of a headache, but we survived, and are now passing through north New Jersey on our way to see Jay and Bob's Secret Stash, and to show Sarah the NJ beach/boardwalk life before heading to Aunt Eileen's for another 2-3 hour drive. Thankfully, it has been a light work day, but my boss decided to start talking/typing to me just as I began driving on the early side this morning. I pulled into a rest area and spoke with him for a while before we switched drivers, and Sarah took over after waking up the rest of the way.
The ride to the Secret Stash in Red Bank, NJ wasn't too bad, and the store was pretty neat. I was a bit disappointed with the amount of screen-used props that were available, but at least there were a few. It was neat seeing where the show "Comic Book Men" is filmed, as well as where they tape the podcasts. Sarah seemed to like it too, and she was kind enough to humor me by taking my picture a few times. They had a lot of merchandised that was signed by Kevin Smith.
After the comic shop, we hit up the Quick Stop proper for a picture and a beverage before hitting the road to my Aunt's house in PA. A long day of driving, but was worth it to be only 2-3 hours from home tomorrow. She is cooking us some shrimp for dinner, which sounds amazing.
